How does the First Chair Academy work?
During these 7-day modules, a small group of selected participants in all string instruments will have a chance to lead the FCA orchestra and its string sections in rehearsals and concerts, and to receive additional training (both on and off stage) focussing upon the function and responsibilities of the Concertmaster and other Principal string player roles.
Under the direction of Igor Gruppman, a team of prominent orchestra leaders, conductors, musicologists, motivational trainers, and scholars will provide each varied and exciting programme.
All academy participants (including playing members of the orchestra) will be invited to take part in stimulating discussions and to attend all presentations.
Developing leadership skills will be the central goal. Learning-by-doing will be the most important feature.
Collaboration with renowned names in classical music is guaranteed.
The FCA aims to have a truly global reach, collaborating with prominent music festivals, programmes and institutions. It will be an intense and demanding experience, but also a deeply rewarding one for all participants, with rich opportunities to make music together.
A public concert during the closing weekend will be a highlight of every FCA event.
In order to participate, a student must meet a number of application criteria: full details of the inaugural 2022 FCA International Academy, together with application requirements and information on how to apply, will be published shortly on our website.
